Enjoy listening to poetry - or share some writing of your own - with the first Poetry in the Boro of 2019! Our features will be poet Andrea Spofford and spoken word artist Frank Frizzy Sykes. This event is free and open to the public, thanks to support from MTSU Write.
Andrea Spofford is poetry editor of Zone 3 Press and teaches at Austin Peay State University. Her poems and essays appear in Cimarron Review, The Account, inter|rupture, New South, and other journals.
Frank Frizzy Sykes is a self-described "country boy" from Columbia, TN. The former law enforcement officer has become known in the area both for his own work and for his role in producing Poboys and Poets Nashville.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. Announcements start at 6:50, preceding the features at 7:00. After the feature, there's time to mingle and purchase books before our open mic time begins. Readers can share one piece of poetry, spoken word, or even short short prose, so pick your best, or what you most want to try out on the audience, and go for it. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too. If your piece is over 4 minutes, please speak to the hosts to see if we can accommodate that.
We'll especially cheer for poems that include one or more of this month's challenge words, which were determined by our November audience: 1974 | touchdown | sparkle | aqueduct | fire | rush | pass | deliver | goldfish | conserve | prodigal
Murfreesboro Little Theatre has its own parking lot. Parking on the street in the area is fine, too - just don't block any driveways. Remember that there is ongoing construction in Murfreesboro in parts of downtown and near MTSU, so if you travel through those areas, you may want to allow a little extra time.
