Taste the World in Rutherford County: Global Cuisine That Sings
We know, the global pandemic has put a damper on travel this year. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy cuisine from all over the world. Take your taste buds for a trip with these local incredible international flavors.
Start your tour south of the border at Las Fiestas, because honestly, taco Tuesday is what we’re living for right now. While you’re there, be sure to try the Poly Fajitas: a blend of steak, shrimp, sausage, chorizo and carnitas served with all the fixings. If you’re looking for a different take on the stateside Mexican menu, check out Hernandez Mexican Deli. Their quick breakfast and lunch offerings are packed with flavor—including some truly delicious vegetarian options.
Next on your list, hit up The Empanada Sonata for Cuban and Puerto Rican flair. They have a variety of fresh and savory empanadas, but you’re not really living until you’ve had the slow roasted Cuban pulled pork. Continuing on with the Caribbean eats, feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme cause it’s Kool Runnings time. From oxtail and jerk chicken to curried goat and shrimp, this classic Jamaican eatery serves up the freshest (and tastiest!) island vibes.
Skipping on over across the pond, The Parthenon Grille is the place to get your Greek on. If you’ve never been before, we highly recommend the Greek Lamb Burger topped with spinach, oil and garlic mushrooms, and feta cheese. For the most classic Italian cuisine, you’ll want to find yourself at La Tavola. They serve pasta every way imaginable with the most decadent sauces and meats. Don’t miss out on the Limoncello Mascarpone Cake when you go. Trust us. Meanwhile, your other Italian offering comes to you in the form of Marina’s on the Square. This restaurant and pizzeria dishes out traditional Italian dishes as well as some of their own creations. If you’re gonna go though, go for the calzones.
Alright now, you Middle East foodies, listen up because the best place for hummus in Middle Tennessee is at Al Rayan. They make their hummus 100% by hand it and every bite is a wonder. Fuel up and then shop because the restaurant is attached to a market with a great selection of food and ingredients. Jaffa Restaurant is the go-to for mouth-watering shawarma, falafel, kabobs, gyros and more. If you see us there chowing down on our third plate of lamb chops, pretend you didn’t (but be sure to order your own!).
Ah, curry. Okay, too many folks are sleeping on curry and that needs to change (#2021goals). Fortunately you can experience seriously soul-warming magic at The Curry House. Start with the house-made naan. This soft bread comes in a variety of flavors, so definitely pick a couple because they will pair perfectly with your main course (say YES to the garlic naan—our personal fave). Then go for a Chicken Tikka Masala or Goat Curry. If you’d like to try a vegetarian dish, choose the Shahi Paneer Korma, which consists of homemade cheese cooked in a flavorful creamy sauce with onion, tomatoes, herbs and spices. Once you’ve experienced the wonders of curry spices, you’ll want to pop over to Clay Pit Indian Cuisine. This local spot serves up traditional Indian dishes and utilizes a clay oven baking method that’s certain to transport your taste buds.
Taking things a bit further East, Thida Thai comes in clutch with classic Thai flavors. Try the Duck Clay Pot. If you’ve never had your meal prepared in clay pot before, it is a method of preparation that adds an extra warm and round flavor to the meal. The Softshell Crab is also delicious and a must-try. Finally, finish up your tasty tour with Cup Pop Korean Restaurant. Grab the Korean Wings here (they come with to-die-for dumplings and an Asian coleslaw). The wings are perfectly crisp and sweet with a bit of a zing.
